Zelenskyy

(Originally written Feb. 26, 2022)

The empty streets are full of crying eyes
And rubble: the symptoms of a shattered peace.
But what to make of these defiant cries
Who proudly say resistance will not cease?

A fool's the name to use, perhaps, for him
Who sees this war of nations head his way
And stands his ground today, with face turned grim.
But listen close and hear the people say:

"A fool he was but now no longer,
For fire makes the steel stronger."
